Yesterday was gray and rainy which spelled laziness for me. The dishes didn’t get done, the cake we ate was bought. The kids did some workbook, but also had little motivation for crafting. Atreyu read his book on his own volition and they picked out mothers’ day cards and signed their names into them. We also picked out an orchid together. It was a little cold for the orchid, but I didn’t realize it until she was already in our bus, so I cut an old water jug to become her tent.

I wish everyone has a friend like Crikett. Not because she sent me a mothersday money but because of her note with it to get myself a fancy coffee. She knows me so well. Frothy coffee is like my biggest indulgence that makes me feel loved and fancy, why exactly that, who knows, but that frothed up milk is so sensual. I haven’t been to a coffee shop at all this year and I don’t think last year either. I may call it my greatest indulgence but I don’t grant myself such. A few years ago my mom bought me a milk frothing machine that I use daily while there, but it overloads my inverter and therefore hasn’t made it into our bus, and therefore the frothy coffee is a luxury item.
Anyway! We stayed in Batesville until close to noon. There were so many friendly and helpful people there! But we headed on to Shelbyville where we found some more helpful people. Especially the guy that we met at Kroger who “confronted” us in the store about it being our bugus and then found us again at the truck stop and put some cash in my hand as we were going to ask truckers for a shower ticket.
The first trucker I asked obliged our ticket request and wished me a happy mothers’ day. And the shower was glorious. Just the thing. I got super clean while the kids played in the water. Cleaned them, then got out and dried myself while they continued to play.
After showering I consulted our maps and contacted my sister-mom. She lives in Illinois and has 5 kids, the eldest two girls are fathered by the same dude that helped me create Galixy. He may not be in our lives but this wonderful family is and I’m beyond grateful for their love and presence. We haven’t visited in 3 years and I feel we should’ve made it more of a priority to see them, but alas, we are where we are now. I gave her a heads up that we’d be near. I also verified that he was still in the area, as I have no other way of knowing, he’s had me blocked for the last 3.5 years. He is indeed near by, and that makes me nervous of chance encounters. If he’d see me he’d probably just avoid us, so that nervousness is all in my head. Di did ask if I’d want mediation or had an interest in seeing him, but really, I don’t know. I don’t need or really want him in our lives. Galixy may or may not benefit from his taking an interest, but that’s not up to me to decide, neither is it even currently on the table, so I won’t let it occupy my mind any more.
We drove through Indianapolis, no stop. I had no mood for big city extravaganza especiallly as the children’s museum was most likely closed. I had taken Atreyu there when I was pregnant with Galixy and it’s an adorable establishment. But, as I said, we passed by and headed into Brownsburg!
Right after arriving, I was just opening the bus door for the dogs to have a potty break, I was caught off guard and my heart jumped a little by the presence of a blonde bushy haired guy. He said he’d just gotten off work at the Walmart and was about to head to a van for sale to see if it would be his future home. He’d been considering van life for a bit and felt seeing Bugus was a good omen for his upcoming adventure! His name is Bryce and he took some amazing pictures of Bugus! He helped us out so much and has one of my pendants now too! It’s been one of my favorite pendants over the last few years. I held on to the stone for a few years before I felt capable of wrapping it satisfactorily and added a small emerald on it to make my two favorite colors in it, lilac purple and green. I couldn’t be more pleased that it was the pendant that spoke to him most! I told him we should stay in touch and that I hope we’d have a chance to caravan in the future, too!
So here we are at a playground. Bryce had suggested Eagle Creek Park, but the kids voted for a shorter drive time to the park, so I will be saving that one for our future endeavors (starred on the map.)
The pile of dishes was so overwhelming this morning that it didn’t occur to me until later that I had been writing blog first thing in the mornings. Here I am at the park making up for it now that the dishes are done and Bugus’ interior feels less like a disaster zone. The sun is shining and I’m eager to take the dogs for a walk once we’ve finished here. I do feel like something else I would like to include has slipped my mind. Starting the writing process halfway through today instead of first thing made me feel a bit disconnected.
Alas our story isn’t over, and I will have more chances to report once it reenters my mind.
I do so hope that you have a wonderful day and have a chance to share some smiles.
