Wait…. It was just a few dayss ago that we got into Georgia. Why did we basically skip through South Carolina? The dogs caught another severe case of the fleas. I immediately feared the worst about the elevation potential of the East coast, my mind racing through the options of getting rid of fleas at 5k feet elevation. Worst case scenario having to go all the way back to Northern New Mexico or something or up to New Hampshire, or back to Montana on the fly. North Carolina, bless it, has a few spots along it’s western border that reach as high as 6.5 K feet elevation. Incredible.

That was like a 6 hour drive from where we were at in Savannah, GA. I made it in three days. I followed the rural interstate that seemed to have congestion every few miles, so I followed the Navi system on side routes on the rural highways. As we were going, I noticed some other cars following the samme turns I was, and then not passing on passable areas. It wasnt a big leap to realize that they were fellow alternate route followers. I felt like one of the doggos in the book “go, dogs, go” but no forseeable party at the end. At one point it looked as though our alternate route seeking was building congestion on a left hand turn, but just as I was nearing it, I saw a cop pull up to the spot, direct the left hand turners coming out of the route before starting to halt traffic to let our route pass smoothly on. I rolled right through without stopping. When the officer spotted Bugus, his hand motion turned to thumbs up. My normal response is to do my variation of the peace sign which is an ASL “I love you.” He saluted as I passed.
South Carolina is so beautiful I felt it was a shame to be cruising through it so quickly. Columbia was super charming. There were so many little things I passed by with a heavy heart opting for playgrounds and quick overnight spots.

In Hendersonville, NC, I made a stop at a German restaurant and Deli and playground visit before we went onto the Blue Ridge Parkway via Waynesville. We did stop to have an ice cream because the wind was too much for bugus to go into mountainous terrain, but the we found an overlook at 5.2k feet height. It’s a beautiful spot with a great view, cell service, picnic table, and hiking path. I’m NOT camping. I’m boondocking. It doesn’t say I can’t camp either way and I haven’t seen anyone to tell me to move on in the almost 24 hours we’ve been here…. suffocating fleas… walking around…. The kids played outside for hours while I cleaned and spoke to some amazing humans stopping by and electronically. I read some Robert Frost poetry and then the kids made up their own poems. I even yoga’d a little.

At one of our stops, we took a walk to the river walk, where Galixy tripped over her big toe so hard it was bleeding and the knee got scraped up somewhat too. She took a ride on my back to Bugus where we bandaged her up. However, children be children and she insisted on tripping and falling right on that same knee, scraping it up worse. It’ll heal sooner, but she’s reached the capacity of trying to utilize such to whine about it at later times. They’re growing so rapidly. It’s usually easy getting them to do workbook time which is a relief to me.
I’ve been suffering from extreme motivational block. I made a daily check list and there’s been like one day where I did everything on it. Some days I only get a total of 5 together. I call those mental health days. Especially the days I don’t even touch the list because it’s just not scopable and I just get the things done I really need to do. Get completely sidetracked and gotta drive a few hours a day to deflea a minute.
I do have to move on from this [write blog] check mark and make some food for these mini humans. They’re getting {quengelig} and food always helps that to some degree.
Immediate plan is to stay in higher elevation for a minute, if necessary moving 2 hours drive north to a ski resort town called Beech something. Maybe we’ll go that way anyway to check out some stuff. I’m half tempted to go into Tennessee before heading back towards the coast and heading further north. It’s an exploration after all! Laundry is also on the near future list and apparently our internet device is being recalled for being a fire hazard so we’ll have to figure out how and when we’re parting with it and when we’ll receive another. I haven’t told Atreyu yet because he’ll be super sad. His game boy plug in isn’t charging (the wires are frayed at the base to the wall port.) There’s a new one waiting at my mom’s kindly gifted to us off the amazon wishlist! But that means he’s going to be practicing his patience on some electronics which has not been his strong suit lately.
Anyway!
