Through AL and barely into Florida

I’m a fortunate person in many ways. This last week has been no exception to the rule. Whether it’s a small realization or good timing on arrivals.

Let me start close to where we lleft off. We made it to the car show, but weren’t allowed to register as my bus has a ford engine and not a VW. I was parked outside of the yellow line. We got a lot of attention and had a nice day hanging out. There was ony one vendor that carried VW parts. I scored some rearview mirrors and door handles. The kids ran around joyfully and Oryan brought out his remote control car for them to be chased by and then try to navigate themselves.

We took the next couple days easy, visiting a couple playgrounds and making our way through Alabama. After Mobile, AL, I took a bit of a detour through Fairhope and Elberta into Pensacola, while Oryan went straight along the 10 and to a free campsite a bit down the road.

That day was pretty busy. In the morning Oryan helped locate a hose to wash out the Alpaca rug some transmission fluid had gotten spilled onto. It came out decently and got strapped to my hood for optimum drying in the sunshine and with driving wind. As Gizzi, the dog, jumped out of the bus, his leash got caught and pulled my glass bottle out of the bus rendering it shattered. Later during the day I managed to break the smaller glass bottle I’d kept around for the last few months. I ended up telling myself that there’s a German saying about “Shards bearing good luck.” The bad side is that now I’m missing two containers I use regularly, but we’ll make due as always.

We saw the Tolstoy Park hermit hut of Fairhope and then a beautiful playground. A sweet lady named Teri was very interested in our bus and even came back a little later.

In Elberta we saw some fiberglass art consisting of a recreation of Stone Hemge, dubbed Bamahenge and a handful of Dinosaurs tucked into the side of the road leading to a Marina where usually the lady of the Lake sits in the waters. The reviews said that Hurricane Sally had wiped her out so we didn’t even go there. It was a beautiful walk  with right sunshine and plenty of space for the dogs to roam a bit.

It was such a beautiful driving day, too. warm and mild breezes. There were some kid complaints and a little fight that broke out but it’s to be expected sometime.

We got to the first Supercenter, in Pensacola and I was told a joke by a sweet lady who also gave us some groceries. Right as she was leaving, this car pulls up and a familiar face jumps out. I had met this momma in a facebook group and been online friends with her for a few years. She saw my bus on her way home from work and instantly recognized us. She invited us to the trailer park her and her daughter inhabit. Her daughter is turning 4 today so we had gotten her a birthday present and wrapped it before heading over to stay a night. The momma works as a mechanic in a shop and is in general a super badass. I feel super lucky for our timing.

So this morning I did some intense cleaning and organizing. Then, I wire wrapped a couple items you could purchase to own (contact me for details)

So, we’re probably staying another night here to hang out with momma and kiddo. Then tomorrow we’ll see where we’re at and where we’re going. It’s supposed to be stormy for the next couple days but sunshiney thereafter. We’ve finally made it to Florida. And it’s a pretty good start.

I’ve come to a loss of words and stories so I figure it’s a good time to remind you to stay grateful… and maybe share some smiles today.
