Ponchatoula, LA

Aye! We’re West of Nola. Side trip! We’ve spent a considerable amount of time with our friend Turtle and somehow there arer always seeming to be enticements for a longer stay.

We’d stayed longer for a kids 5th birthday party, at which we were enticed to extend our stay for a social night, 2 nights from then. On Saturday I couldn’t get everything done and read but Sunday we managed to have most everything packed. The reasoning for our trip away from our goals was for the enticement of being present for turtles own birthday and Atreyu’s 7th birthday is 4 days thereafter. I feel compelled to give my elder child a birthday inclusive of other children. Then next year he can make up his mind what he likes better.

I figure we can go to a playground so we don’t wreck Turtles house for another party, cake and a pinata and presents and we should all be good and happy.

The time we’ve spent with Turtle has been a busy little time. The kids have had so much play time and even received the luxury of making older and adult friends that took the chance to teach them new stuff. The baby in Turtles house and I got super close and the middle child gave me a little more treading room before the time had passed. I tried to work with the eldest childs wildness of pulling everything possible apart.

I should tell about the birthday party we attended. It was meant to be set at the beach at worlds end. After everyone had arrived and started setting up, the police came to tell us we weren’t permitted to be there, then escorted the whole party back to the parking lot. The party ended up happening in the parking lot with the grass of an art house available. There was grilling and cake and a little tent where the kids hid the pinata candy and embibed. I spent my time watching children. Most attendees were adults so there was a lot of drinking going on. I didn’t socialize very much and probably should’ve gotten our group going when it crossed my mind, but I didn’t. There had been spray paint gifted and spray paint being utilized at the party… one of the little kids got a hold of a can and spray painted a truck of a party attendant. It was a shit show and I tried my best to quickly get everyone loaded. As I waited for turtle to grab her bags, some random stranger started shouting right next to us about pulling guns out and shooting people, While backing up he came around saying he was being run over by us threatening to pull a gun on the bus. It had been running for at least a minute before backing up. He was ust trying to start drama left and right and we booked it outta there.

The social night was very relaxed. I had a wonderful conversation partner in Nat who moved here from France at age 17. I hope I see her at Turtles birthday and find a way to keep in touch with her as I wonder off again.

So Saturday we left? I’m getting all mixed up in my head. I do know we spent all of Sunday at the Walmart and made little money and no real fuel. We played trouble and did some workbook work and I also did some exterior painting on the bus. I did quite a bit of painting lately.

I’ve also updated the want and needs list but just thought of the few things I accidentally omitted, so I’ll go back to that after I finish here.

We’re currently at the memorial park. The kids played for almost 20 minutes and then things went south with their attitude. I brought them back into the bus and gave them a chance to reconsider their attitudes and actions. Once I’m done, I’ll be taking them for a walk to get a little more energy and sunshine before the possibility of rain. I’m not even sure where we’re going or what we’re doing but I also saw that river mansion on atlasobscura.com that I would like to see the outside of at the least, but not sure where it was. Also, Nat had suggested a spot in northern louisiana of a precivilization town to go check out. I marked it and if we had more fuel and money we would’ve either gone there or to pensacola to hang out at the beach with Jamaica, a friend we met at Turtle’s. But as is, a small milage loop spanned over about a week’s time.

The fact that going slow and taking long breaks gives me a chance for natural marketing. Ponchatoula apparently has me posted on their local pages and a few people have found us this way. That’s just amazing to me.

I did want to take the chance to thank you for checking out my blog about this life. I generally feel a bit inadequate and like I probably don’t give what is wanted. It might take a few different blog reads to get into it, but those interested could always start at the beginning and work their way up to here, or check out specific locations they would like to know more about. I don’t know much, but that I’m grateful you’re reading.

So, on that note, do check out how we got to where we are now
