Well Hello! Thank you for joining me on my little journey! I last left you all in Portland, TX really craving a shower which we took at a truck stop in Refugio. I love that name. We didn’t do much there, mostly escaped the weather after getting clean.

When I let the dogs go potty, I noticed Gizzi had some worms in his poop. My brain doesn’t work well when I’m stressed. I googled where to get dewormer. Then, while driving, I remembered that shoving some tobacco down the dogs throat makes their stomach environment inhospitable to those parasites. By that time we were already piloting towards a walmart and finding a new destination while driving is sketch. Especially since my overdrive is acting up again and that stresses me out.
So, we were at the walmart, dogs freshly stuffed with some fine tobacco, and this guy drives up asking if he can take us to the sea food place for lunch. I wasn’t going to say no. Tim is a really nice guy who drives a pilotcar for oversized load trucks. The kids both nibbled on fried catfish while I ate a cheeseburger. It was a nice visit.
I really needed to do laundry though and wash the bed things where Gizzi sleeps, so we did that before going to a playground for the kids to run wild a bit. I realized too late that if we wanted to stay up late we should’ve taken a nap. And, so, we slept into the new year. Like, I even had just said how awesome it would be to watch fireworks from the bug ontop, and I fell asleep at 9:30. At some point, I swear I heard some rockets go off, but I couldn’t even bring myself to roll over and peek out of the window…. I feel a little lame.
So, on the 1st of the year, a guy came by and filled our fuel tank and gave me a couple cases of wrenches! BOMB! Then he proceeded to buy us a hotel room for a couple nights and a gift card and coloring stuff from his kids to mine. He said that it really didn’t cost him anything because he gets some perks from his company, but, honestly, you can’t downplay that kind of kindness. He may have these things readily available, but they’re not something we come by often, and in a big heap pile like that. I feel truly blessed!
So the first thing I did after getting into the hotel room was to turn on my laptop and get youtubes custom URL! WOO! youtube.com/c/MatildaBugus

The hotel doesn’t allow dogs, so I’ve been going out often. We went to buy me new haircolor and get some pizza yesterday. Then, today, after a nice breakfast provided by the hotel, we went for a walk around the street near here, and then to the Children’s playground near the river walk. The dogs got lots of exercise and then love from random kids while my kids played. I talked the kids into going for a walk, my anxiety flaring with so many people around. It was a beautiful walk along the river with a few beautiful people enjoying the sunshine. When we got back to the playground, I let the kids go play another 10 minutes, and then caught a kid opening the door on Bugus and calling his friends to come look, too.
I was like “What do you think you’re doing?” – “Oh I think it’s cool….”- “That’s nice, but could you please stay out of peoples homes?” He scurried off all abashed. I checked the bus and hung the lock on the door. I walked to the playground and sat on a bench. Three boys, inclusive of the one I’d caught going on the bus, came and sheepishly lined up and apologized sincerely. They said they were just looking and not taking anything. I asked if they just go open car doors or go into houses because they look cool and they obviously said they didn’t. I thanked them for apologizing, though. It’s a clear hint to me that I need to lock my door more. I mean, I got really lucky with these kids just being curious, but some people are shadier than I would like to think of them…
Anyway, I’m already anticipating a somewhat hectic morning trying to scoop all of us back into the bus, but I’ll be so happy to be back in my bed with my dogs. Not Gizmo. He’s been stress terrorizing the bus, so now he’s on a leash in the front. Rhea knows I’ll be back for her, but she’s not happy about it either.
I’m tired. and grateful!
I hope you are too!
I hope you’re sharing smiles in these tough times, through the masks. Eye crinkles are noticed.
