Hello and thanks for being here! Merry Christmas Eve, Happy Holidays! This is such a beautiful place, it’s easy to spend time here, lounging around on the beach particularly!
Almost a week ago we went to the Aquarium! It was fantastic and the kids enjoyed it a lot I made lots of video that should be going on youtube soon. Thinking the beach will be a separate thing as it seems short, sweet videos are better… We even got to see the Dolphin show!

The next day I prepared us to go to the beach and camp there a bit. I wanted to celebrate the solstice by not driving and enjoying the beach. So it must’ve been the 20th when we headed to the campsite in Padre Island Park seeing as freecampsites.net said it would be free with a Permit. turns out the permit was a park entrance fee that needed to be for 7 days for camping. and so we spent 25$ just for park entrance. The campsite was $14, but I snagged a good spot, which a couple pulling in right behind me wanted so bad they paid me 20$ to switch spots as I was only paying for one night while they were gonna set up for 6. We had a nice evening there making a homemade pizza, and then a morning stroll along the beach before we moved shop about a mile down the road to the free campsite right on the beach.
A free spot right next to the water, way better than the pavement and supervision. I let the kids out and kept the dogs close. They played in the water and on the sandy hill side. Later we collected some drift wood and dug a little fire pit. When the sun went down we lit our solstice candles, cooked a potato-broccoli soup dinner, and then had a fire where we roasted marshmellows and burned a goat-shaped driftwood as our yule log. It was a magical day and a peaceful night. A good start into the new year cycle.

On the 22nd we had a short trip into town but the 23rd was a full on beach day. I felt like doing something creative but also had a bit of a blockage. I couldn’t even get writing together, but we got a lot of joy out of the beach and the day flew by.
Last night the wind got pretty intense. It was rattling the bus like crazy and I got up to run around it and put all straggling items out of the wind and on the bus. Our buckets of seashells have been filled with Sand, at least it means they didn’t fly away. In the morning, I decided we needed to get out of the wind and do some laundry. Snatch up a little more christmas spirit that’s flying around. So that’s what we did. When I got into service, I received a message on the facebook page (1. no service on the beach. 2. 523 likes on that page!!) The message was from a guy named Chad. He’d seen us at the Aquarium and then at the Walmart but didn’t carry any cash, so he asked for the cash app link ( $MatildaBugus ) He’s a very generous guy! He dropped a bomb into that app! Which reminds me I should honorably mention the wonderful lady that filled up our fuel tank at the Walmart. It was sorely needed and much appreciated. My mom sent us a christmas gift and a guy named Dakota at the Target/HEB lot who also reached out while at work. My mind is blown right now. I’m super grateful!
We have like 2 more nights of park entrance and I would like to utilize it to the fullest, and especially fill the water tank again before we’re outta there. I also feel like I kinda need to get a couple stocking stuffers for the kids, while I absolutely don’t really want to buy junk they don’t need. They do always like stickers, maybe I’ll stop at the dollar tree and get some they like. Also tempted by the Whattaburger, but we do have food we need to and should eat!
Oh! I found a little German bakery. They have the best strudel. Their Vanille Kipferl are… eh… well they’re delicious, but not authentic. It was good to have a taste of hime for Christmas as I was blasting kids christmas songs in german. The people working were young and accent free, either the owners offspring or highers, which isn’t unlikely as they seem well established in the community, my point of the comment was that I didn’t get to speak German to anyone inside and I’d been looking forward to saying ” GrĂĽĂźi Gott!” or “Eine Melange, bitte.” but I didn’t see that option either. Maybe I wasn’t looking hard enough. They did have Schnitzel and Cordon Bleu on the menu but I would’ve prefered Knödel. This is making me think of my kids needing some European exposure, maybe in a few years they’ll be backpacking ready to go see some more world. It would greatly benefit them.
