Good day to my wonderful 100 subscribers via wordpress!! YAAY! milestone! Also Good Day to all y’all folks however you find me!
I’m pretty much forcing myself to write because it’s easier than washing and sealing leaky roofs or raking the lot I’m cleaning. Also, I’m technically on baby duty while my friend gets her eldest from school.
So we made it to Nola for Mardi Gras. We’ve been here for a little over a week. Time flows funny here. It may be a mix of having so many things to do between my projects, house projects here, more kids added to the mix, excursions here, and the temporary break from constant movement. And the whole city being in party mode certainly helped with it also being under construction.
The parades were crazy. Last Thursday Turtle and I found a babysitter to be able to go out to a parade. It gave me more of an idea what I’m bringing the kids to, while also giving us mom’s a little break to go be adults not counting kids’ heads every few seconds. So that was pretty fun.
We took the kids to parades Saturday and Tuesday. I made a TikTok of Tuesday. We brought out a Mardi Gras ladder for the kids to sit on, which Galixy refused because of the height while Atreyu pretty much lived in it. The floats were awesomely decorated and the marching bands were loud and imppressive. My kids went through a lot of emotions with catching the plethora of junk they threw off the floats. It really goes to show how temporary things are and how material wealth is “never enough.”

On Sunday We went to a little girls birthday party where I got to see a lot of people I hadn’t seen in a whiile. The cakes were home made and absolutely delicious. The birthday girl was happy and the kids got lots of play time.

On Wednesday, I believe, we took the kids to a park to try out an Aikido class. The instructor was a little overwhelmed with the amount of kids partaking but really did his best trying to get our little to listen. Not an easy task, but he valiantly bit through the hour. I bet he’ll be pleased that only one of the four might actually end up partaking. Jill smartly plans to let him try out another class before deciding which one he wants to do. In German, those “try-outs” are called “schnupper kurs” like getting to sniff it out, or around, or all up in it. I’d really like to get to give my kids more sniffer classes as we go.
So, the lot we normally park in was obstructed by a big curb as there’s construction. so I, at first, parked in another lot, where the proprietor ended up coming by to knock and ask wtf is going on on his property. I told him I was just visiting a friend and he said I could stay for a week as long as I didn’t leave any trash. I look around at the already trashed field and told him I would even pick up whatever was already out here. Within a day that was done and I started cleaning up the lot we usually park in which was much more trashed and neglected.
After a couple days of clean up and rounding up rakes and plywood for a ramp to move Bugus on, it became a quick decision. It was pretty early in the morning still and the whole road was cleared out, So Jill’s roommate came to the bus to tell me now would be a good time. We piled all the plywood we’d gathered and could find, I drove around the block once and faced the janky hurdle to our safe spot. I knew it was a one time shot, so after minor adjustments to the ramp, I gave the gas a hard squeeze and didn’t let off until I was sure the trailer was up on level ground. It was quite the bumpedy bump and my spectators said the trailer had at one point leaned dangerously to the side, but it really wasn’t too shaken up in there. The interior of the bus got hit harder. All the Utensils were strewn on the floor and even my French Press had found a resting place on it’s side on the carpet, spilling the half of it’s contents I had saved for the next morning. Ce la vie.
I used the plywood from the ramp to make a pathway to our doors. Having cleaned up all the trash the previous day had come in extra handy as I was able to use the trashbags as buffers under the plywood in the weak spots. Since then, I’ve raked about a quarter of the property. It’ll make for a great fire when I’m done and make a firepit out of the bricks Jill has in her backyard. Part of the lot is public property and the other half is privately owned. It could be more useable than just having visitor hippie vans park on it. Not that I’m complaining, I just don’t like seeing something so trashed. Some community service.
It’s also a solid way of procrastinating on my other projects. climbing up a ladder to wash the trailer and bugus and then “through the roof” sealant it. Definitely something I’m looking forward to.
Today we took the kids to the library. We got a bunch of books I’ll be using while we’re here. My kids have been doing well with keeping up on doing their work while we’re here. Last year was much quarantine vibe still while this year is regular life pace for Jill, and honestly, city life has become to fast paced for me. Country life ruined me. Just kidding. Not ruined. I just like it a little less fast, but still not too slow. I really like deciding my own pace, especially on a daily level.
Imma move on. Get things done.
I got 0 feedback on the smiley day thing. A little disappointed. Anyway…….
Hope y’all are blessed and smiling!
