We’ve finally made it to Maine! The kids cheered as we crossed the state line. It’s been the worst weather. Ok, maybe not the worst. It’s not snowing. Just been so rainy and chilly and dampens my moods and leaves me feeling at a loss on what to do with myself. Trying to find a place where we can stay over night is like a task in itself.
This lovely gentleman had pointed to boondockerswelcome.com which seems like a super legit site and relatively more affordable at $75/year than this other camp deal for campground resorts that go for around $470/year. I still need to either talk myself into doing something like that. It’s more than my yearly maintenance on my domain. On one hand it’d probably ease my mind often, on the other I could see myself having anxiety about establishing contact with people. But that’s a possible negative that I’m not factoring into whether or not it’s a good investment. At least not at a monumental level.
So with all the gray and rainy and parking lot overload I’ve marked some spots to go camping for free for a little unwind and recharge. A couple days of just sitting at home. Letting some creativity flow and just dealing with ourselves.
So… we went and saw the Derry house of Robert Frost’s residence from 1900-1911. It had a beautiful poetry walk we took all our animals. The tour was very cute and kept the kids somewhat entertained. Atreyu found a love for poetry.
Yesterday we went to a wonderful playground where the kids rode the scooter around the basketball court. Mauve kept finding mouse after mouse. we separated her from a few and saved their little lives, but at the very end, the monstrous Me-auve brought one in the bus. And let it escape. I put out our live mousetrap with a piece of Pizza crust in it, but we found the mouse dead inside of it this morning. Suspicious circumstances.
While Mauve tortured mice, Galixy did all of her homework and Atreyu found himself a whole big group of friends. I think they were all the same family as they arrived in the same van. It was neat to watch Atreyu first play basketball with some boys and then run up and down the hill. I would’ve expected Galixy to be unhappy or jealous about it, but she was more than pleased to just watch out the window on occasion and work hard at finishing her work stuff.
Once Atreyu’s friends all left, he came to sit with me and realzed that Galixy was on her tablet and he needed to do his homework too. We talked about what his workbooks and I expected of him today and he shrieked in happy anticipation about having test pages in his German workbook.
These kids are really growing. They keep astounding me and driving me absolutely crazy. We bought a couple new nature books. Ones a survival-, the other exploring-nature guide. Atreyu is very pleased and been in them all day.
I also wanted to report about David, our unexpected super efficient helper! We were pulling into a parking lot next to a McDonalds to usurp some internet, when he parked right infront of us to take some pics. He proceeded us to a gas station where he put a hundred dollars into our tank and then took us right next door to Burger King for our dinner. Way better internet reception there too. What a cool dude he is.
Ok I’m unsure what else to report. I feel pretty satisfied about having vented about this stay- indoor- to- stay- dry weather and the overnight parking spots being hard to find around here. A lot of Walmarts don’t appreciate it here because of town ordinance. It makes sense that they want their campgrounds to make money….. but I’m just not gonna oblige that nonsense regularly.
Off I go to the next thoughts of where tf are we parking overnight tonight. I’d rather drive along the 1 and hit this rest stop, but I don’t think it’ll be big enough for me to be stealthy and unimpeding. So possibly a bit longer of a drive along highway to walmart. poo but closer to where we’ll be finding camping!
