I’ve been slacking and I have no excuses. Except that a lot has been going on.. I really have to reprioritize cause we went a full loop!
Of course I said I wasn’t going to go down wards through the mountain pass but this lady tipped me off about an easier route and we decided on that past the turn to telluride and through long stretches of rolling desert hills down to Farmington NM. That’s pretty much already desert butit was a cold spout and we headed through Gallup and then Snowflake and Payson to Phoenix where we celebrated Galixy’s birthday.
We got a cat in Farmington because it felt right. The kitten is named Mauve. Marvelous Madam Mauve. She’s playful and sweet. She’s been sleeping on top of my chest, but she cuddles with the kids and is the star of the household currently!
Galixy’s birthday was a little affair. They decided early in the day they wanted to go to the zoo, so all other minimal plans were pretty much off the table. I drove about an hour to get to the Phoenix zoo.
It’s pretty big so it took us a while to see all the animals, but it was really goo exercise, especially because there’s always a reason the kids wanna keep going. “Hey look, the monkeys are up ahead!” and when it’s time to take a break, find an interesting thing and squat on a bench while munching on some snacks.
Afterwards we had a simple dinner and a chunk of brownie with a candle for Galixy to blow out. We finally baked the cake yesterday and it fell apart coming out of the pan, so frosting was a nightmare.
Anyway, getting ahead of myself there! From Phoenix I realized the time crrunch I was in to get to my friends’ wedding in Ruidoso! We pretty much booked it through Tuscon and Wilcox and Deming and then all the way to alomogordo. about and hour drive from Ruidoso. My friends stopped by this morning on the way up to hope for a caravan up which would’ve been sweet, but with the wind blowing this way, no way.
I wanna tell about this lovely lady we met a playground as she was walking her dog. Her name is Sarah and she’s in her mid fifties or sixties. She lives with her husband of like 55 (?) years! They’ve been together since they were 8 and after highschool had a time living in a house on the beach getting by making music and probably doing odd jobs. That last part is conjecture because it’s been a minte since we spoke (and I”ve been listening to a bunch of different audiobooks) but she’s got such a vibe and was so kind. She’s definitely stuck around in my thoughts.
Of course my thoughts zoom by a lot of diverse people. I meet so many beautiful souls. I know people don’t really feel a warm glow or anything when someone holds them in their thoughts, but I hope that every warm thought is a little bit of luck dropped in your path.
I crossed paths with my friend Jessica in Gallup who lives outside of Tuscon. I was hoping to stop by there but with the time crunch I just kinda booked it through. Life happens. My friends are life wise enough to understand that. I’m very grateful for them. I’m also grateful for the humans that bring us life lessons. Even if they hurt my feelings. I guess we kind of need that sometimes. We all choose the path we’re walking in multiple different ways.
Anyway… It’s like between 30 and 50 mph wind, so we’re sitting here. Bad weather conditions mean Matilda no drive, but it seems maybe it’s good timing and placement cause there’s a few humans saying they can fix a couple of things like the brake lights on the trailer and this gives em a chance to come through.
Adding the trailer has made it easier for me to let messes go as there’s more room and also a chance to just get away and ignore the mess in one part. Can’t keep it all clean anyway. As soon as the bus is clean and I move to the trailer, I can turn around and the bus is a mess again. I have been giving the kids more tasks to help me with all of this as I don’t need it to be all that precise anymore and they really seem to flourish with each new task, which in subsequent requested times turns to whining.
Atreyu has really started to learn that a little practice means the joy comes much faster. He often picks up books to read now and even said he enjoyed writing his story I’ve tasked him with lately. The comprehension is growing and their light shines bright.
The dogs are tolerating the kitten ok. Gizzi needs to be told not to growl at her, but she’s feisty. They’ll be fine soon.
I feel sad because we passed through so many towns that were super friendly and we didn’t take the chance to explore much.
I am hoping to meet up with Peaches soon, who’s basically on the same road we’re on but a hundred miles north of us or so. And then I plan on heading into albuquerque to see Paulina and co. She wants to spend our birthdays together which would be so lovely! I’m super tempted especially if we get some stuff done and do some excursions too.
The guy that’s helping with the electrical problems is back so I’m gonna skidaddle off of here and hopefully get full capability on times we can travel through this world. Though I don’t generally drive much at night anyway….. with these windstorms that’s a super handy ability though too!
Anyway! I hope you’re grateful and feel loved. Blessings and all the good vibes to y’all!
