#92621 Grand Junction CO

Good day to you gentle folk! We’re sitting at a playground. Well, the kids are playing, but I’m taking this motivation and putting it to paper as I feel the huge delay in getting the previous thing actually posted was too immense for my pleasure.

All in all I got so delayed throughout Utah that it took me way too long to get out of that state. I literally thought I was cutting through a small corner, and though it basically was… Where’d I leave off? in Vernal? Snap, I had to go back and look cause I knew it wasn’t right. Duchesne, however you pronounce that. I didn’t end up learning.

Vernal was nice, though. Pretty quiet Walmart with friendly people, as there were at the playground too. The kids followed a guy with a metal detector for a little bit. We did a little stop at the laundromat to finish drying the clothes that had stayed damp in Heber. I was tempted to take the kids to all the dinosaur stuff in Vernal, but we enjoyed looking at all the dinos on the side of the road too before heading towards what I anticipated would be Colorado.

Something told me to pull off at the rest area that’s at the beginning of the road to the Utah side of the National Monument though. The kids said they wanted to go, so we did. $25 to get in. The kids got Junior Ranger booklets and badges at the visitor center and we got  a little map of the fossil trail to hike up to the quarry. The hike was a cute path a little over a mile long and mostly uphill. The kids did great on the way up, on the way down, they complained at the end stretch, but I’m jumping ahead. The quarry is a wall of an overwhelming amount of dinosaur bones. They say it was a river bend and dubree and dead things didn’t just stick there over time but through floods, too. The kids were in awe. They had little signs about how the place was found and where a whole boatloads of skeletons were found in tact and are out in exhibits and their locations. It was pretty darn nifty.

From there we drove out to see some petroglyph sites that ended up being down a dirt road and had just enough room for me to turn around at the petroglyph site to get back out. We debated as a family if we should stay the night at the campsite there which cost $18  which we did end up deciding on doing. I was just pretty done driving and wanted a simple spot to deal with. So I paid for a night of quiet under stars.

In the morning the camphost came by and ended up telling us to stay another night, or up to three. I opted for one extra night as I’d spent so much of the day cleaning up our area, but I also really got the itch to get south before doing much else and I’m really flailing about it. So, yeah. I relaxed for the latter part of the day and then prepared to go for a walk. Our neighbors started playing Corn Holio or whatever that game is called with the two boards and the bags you try to toss into holes in the board. The kids ended up joining them and delayed our walk a little. It was very sweet to see them play though. The lady told me the next morning that the kids were super great *Pat my back*

I can be proud of them! Atreyu’s been doing extraneous work initiating it himself on occasion. Today we did our work pretty early. It was hard at a point but we perservered and got it done! He’s almost got a flow to reading and puzzles out a lot of hard words. Sometimes he still breaks down on some easy word. His writing is progressing steadily too. Galixy manages to work on her workbook more days than not. They are kind and polite and gregarious.

Sooo…. from the campsite we drove to Dinosaur Colorado where we played at the park and subsequently took a little stroll to the “D” and through the visitor center park. The library was open for a short time. I was hoping to catch some wifi there, but no luck. A nice librarian and some cool books to look at. Galixy didn’t want to leave.

But it was time to go, and we drove to Rangely where we stopped for fuel. It’s a cute little town and I really think it’s worth exploring. It has a couple museums and river access, yet all we did was get fuel and head on south, through a big ass canyon, up a fluffing big hill, I didn’t enjoy because it was hard on Matilda with those gaskets still not being installed…..

So here we got to Grand Junction. Da-dadadum!

The most forward path is through the mountains south but is that something I wanna do to Matilda?

We could go east through Denver? Or west and through Utah and Moab. I mean I could look up the fastest path to Albuquerque and see my friends there… Lots of options. Obviously I most want to take the path I feel I shouldn’t. I’m gonna make a rational decision about it, but of yet, still quite unsure and Peaches hasn’t answered me to discuss yet either.

AAAAAAnyway. I have a lot more to do, but I feel this is surprisingly complete, except for  pictures…. I do hope you enjoy the story of my life.
