We left Medicine Lodge in the late afternoon. I wwanted to head to a laundromat and google maps hadn’t revealed the one in Medicine Lodge, so we headed north to Pratt. There I washed some clothes, met some people and then headed to Walmart. There, a guy named Ted, brought us mac and cheese and fried chicken. He invited us to his house for showers, which we took him up on the next day.
The kids and I showered together, while Ted barbecued. The adults got steak and the kids hot dogs, though my family was more into the corn on the cob and grilled zucchini than the meat.
The next day, Ted went to work and gave us permission to utilize his house. I did 4 loads of laundry and bathed the dogs in an attempt to rid us of fleas. 3 cans of Raid later and I could still feel it hop. So I bought more Raid and spent the next day tearing apart the blankets again and catching a couple fat colonies and some attempted escapees. A few tubes of silicone are in my immediate future.
Last night we stayed at the truck stop in Ellis. Ate noodles for dinner and listened to chapters 23 and 24 for the Deathly Hallows. This morning, the kids did their school work very willingly and watched a short movie while I drove us to Colby, only 53 miles from the state line of Kansas to Colorado.
I feel like we’re moving too fast. Already we’ve come back to upper 30’s at night and waking up in a different town makes me feel confused in the mornings, like I’m not even sure what we did the night or whole day before, or at least like important parts are blurred out. I prefer slow meanderings and at least 24 hour “layovers”
his playground isn’t prohibited with caution tape. It is an older playset with lots of metal and separated toys. The kids are ecstatic to be climbing on some stuff. I hope to make it to Colorado today, but I’m not in a hurry. There’ll be a stop at the grocery store for fresh nut milk. I’d rather buy it in the later afternoon but with the lower temparatures I’m not so worried about things spoiling.

It seems we’ve almost made it out of the stormy plains. Haven’t had any spring thunderstorms, yet a light shower. The winds are not very threatening but persistent. It’ll be quite the beautiful drive getting to see the rockies rise into the plains as we enter Colorado.
Here’s hoping that you’re doing well and are remaining grateful!
